This helps prevent worsening of existing sores, heal existing bedsores (even in advanced stages), and prevent recurrence. When you lie down, pressure concentrates on a few contact points under the sacrum, ischium, and tailbone. This creates pressure "hotspots" that are the starting point for sores.
