The material for a castor oil pack must be tightly woven so that the oil has the chance to absorb into your skin, not only the pack. Cotton sherpa or cotton flannel are both great materials for castor oil packs; avoid materials like velour or plush which have larger gaps in the weave that absorb oil. Lay your pack on a clean, flat surface with the soft cotton side facing up (tag side facing down). Use the sides of your pack to blot the oil, evenly distributing it on the middle of your pack, avoiding the seams.
